According to Reuters' reportwow888, more than 30 people died and several others injured in a bus accident on Monday morning.

The accident occurred on the outskirts of Guatemala City, a spokesperson for the city's fire department said.

The bus was travelling a busy route in and out of the city when it fell from Puente Belice, a highway bridge that crosses over a road and creek, Reuters wrote.

Guatemala President Bernardo Arevalo expressed condolences over the tragedy through social media platform X. "The tragedy at the Belice Bridge is a national pain that I deeply regret. I stand in solidarity with the families of the victims who woke up today to heartbreaking news. Their pain is my pain," he wrote on X

President Arevalo has instructed the mobilization of National Army personnel and CONRED (emergency service) to assist at the site and to activate special criteria for medical attention to the injured.

He further informed that he has decided to declare national mourning, which will soon be formalised through a government decree.

Guatemala City Mayor Ricardo Quiñónez advidesed companies and institutions to implement "teleworking and staggered schedules" given the complexity of traffic in the coming hours.

Quiñónez wrote on X: "We deeply regret the incidents that occurred today, the armed attack and the multiple accident involving a bus coming from outside the city that claimed the lives of people.

We express our solidarity with the affected families and reaffirm our commitment to address this crisis with immediate action.

We have deployed all emergency services to speed up rescue work @obrasmuniguate_ @bomberosmuni and medical assistance. The Municipal Traffic Police @PMTMuniGuate is working on creating alternative routes to facilitate mobility in the affected area.

Given the complexity of traffic in the coming hours, we call on @GuatemalaGob, companies and institutions to, to the extent possiblewow888, implement teleworking and staggered schedules, thus reducing the vehicular load and allowing a more agile response from the authorities."
